Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel. On the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you. You shall also observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance. Exodus 12:15-20
There is so much deep symbolism regarding the UNLEAVENED BREAD that we, along with the Jews for thousands upon thousands of years, all the way back to the Exodus, eat at Passover.
First, the Israelites were told to eat in haste, fully dressed and ready to go becuase there was no time to wait for their dough to rise before their great escape from Egypt! This is just how it is with the Gospel, it's our great escape and when we hear it-we should readily recieve and be ready to escape what has bound us. No dilly dallying, no dragging our feet, no waiting. Freedom awaits and it's time to GO!
Second, this is the bread that Jesus broke at the Passover meal with His disciples that we call the last supper. Look what He said when He broke the Matzah, "
And He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Luke 22:19
UNLEAVEANED BREAD is representative of Jesus. No leaven...No sin, nothing of man's doctrines, nothing of the world. JUST Yeshua, the Word, the Messiah in all His righteousness, come to save the world. It was the breaking of HIS BODY by which we are saved and healed.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:5-6
I used fresh ground Hard Red Spring Wheat and Spelt flours in my recipe to be a biblically acurate as possible, but you can use any that you like. Spring wheat has the highest protein content for the best bread texture, spelt adds the depth of rich flavor that I love. This is the perfect bread recipe for people who can't bake, and the perfect bread recipe for people who don't have a lot of time. It doesn't have to be just for Passover, it's so good, you will return to this flatbread recipe year round! Enjoy!
